One of our greatest delights here at Arts Aftercare is meeting and collaborating with gifted artists like Joy and Johannes Vangend. Originally from South Africa, Joy is a musician and Johannes is a wood worker. They both embody the spirit of Arts Aftercare and are living out our motto, "Do what you love to undo what you hate."
Recently Joy and Johannes combined their creative gifts and expertise to craft these two cajons, beautiful works of art they donated for use in our local programs. When we expressed our deep admiration and gratitude, Joy wrote:
“We are really happy that we were able to do something. The cause outweighs the small effort and contribution. We are blessed to be able to do a bit. The focus belongs with those who are undertaking the difficult road of recovery. Thanks for all you guys do to aid in that walk.”
We feel the same way -- blessed to be able to do something we love for the greater good -- and people like the Vangends make our blessings that much sweeter. Thanks again, Johannes and Joy. Your gift of music will provide healing release and joyful refreshment for travelers on that difficult road.
