For the next few weeks we plan to share quotes from some of our dedicated volunteers. Today we hear from Matt Deason, Arts Aftercare Music Volunteer and Seattle Programs Volunteer Coordinator. Matt wrote:
"I've volunteered with Arts Aftercare since August, 2012. I volunteer with Arts Aftercare because they were the first organization I'd encountered that was specifically inviting artists to take part in the justice scene because they recognized the intrinsic value in performing and creating art. Other organizations only went so far as to make a call for artists because they need a graphic designer (for communicating to the masses). But where does the artist belong in direct efforts to make the world whole again? Arts Aftercare was founded because of the realization that healing can come through the arts, and artists can directly help to bring that opportunity for healing to others."
Thanks, Matt, for the time, energy, and creativity you pour into enriching the lives of the street youth served by our local programs. You're making a difference by doing what you love to undo what you hate, and we appreciate you!
